How to obtain a work visa to the UAE

UAE (UNITED ARAB EMIRATES) is very popular among expatriates because of its comparatively easy visa processing requirements as compared to other Arab countries. Hence, UAE makes an excellent choice for those who are wishing to work in foreign country. Some protocols are required to obtain residence visas, immigration, and work permits.

This article is a guideline for all those expatriates who want to work in Dubai and looking for information about its visa processing system.

There are precisely six broader types of entry and visa permits, which are as follows.

Tourist/Visit visa

For those who don’t have any job offer letter from any UAE based company and they want to visit UAE for finding a job, then they have to obtain tourist visa Following are some types of tourist visas.

Travellers need Covid-19 insurance which covers all Covid-19 related expenses, its a precautionary measure while travelling to overseas. There are six visit visas types, but it is recommended that one should obtain 30 days or 90 days of visit or tourist visa to find a job in UAE. Ninety days visa is the most convenient one.

UAE 30 days tourist visa

If anyone is planning for a short tour and he/she is sure that he/she will get a job within 30 days, then this is the perfect visa opportunity. The processing requirements are very straightforward.

VISA APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Copy of last and the first page of visitor’s passport.
  2. Visitor’s contact information and home address and the details of a person to stay.
  3. A white background passport size visitor’s Photograph.
  4. The passport should Have a validity minimum of 6 months.
  5. If the visitor is your spouse, then it should be mentioned on the passport.

30 days multiple entry UAE visa

Those passengers under the possession of a “Multiple Entry UAE Visa” can easily convert their Visa to a ‘Resident Visa’ or ‘Employment Visa’ without even exiting UAE, only if their application is successful. Passengers will then have the authority to use this category visa for any entry and exit until the permit finishes its validity.

UAE tourist visa for 90 days

For those who want to come and search for a job, 90 days visa is a perfect option for them as it provides a convenient opportunity to apply at many companies and then waits for interview calls. Sometimes, the company takes more than 1 to 2 weeks to reply; hence for those who have three months Visa then they will not have to worry even if the company takes time to respond.

90 days multiple entry UAE visa

Tourists who own 90 days multiple entry visa get the opportunity to convert their access to a Resident visa or Employment visa even without leaving Emirates, but their application should be successful.

For having long-term working assignments in UAE, The employee will have to require a work permit, which is also referred to as a labor card. There are several rules which are necessary to follow. Some of these rules are required to follow or process before entering in UAE, while other protocols can be completed after arrival. When all requirements are finalized, remember that the work permit will be valid for two years only.

Stage 1: Obtaining the Employment Entry Visa in UAE

  1. Visa Quota Approval

The 1st step of getting an Entry visa or work permit is to obtain a visa quota approval from MOL (Ministry of Labour). The employer is required to apply for this Visa on behalf of his employee. If the visa application belongs to any of the free zone, quota approval will be granted before entering an employee in UAE.

Usually, Free zone companies restrict quota approval on a work visa, and mostly it is limited to only one foreign worker for every 12.5 square meters of office space. For companies with more than a hundred employees, a quota gets Imposed for few positions only. If the percentage has already reached to its maximum, then for upgrading quota, an application can be applied for, but the upgrade is not guaranteed.

Time to Process: it takes mostly three working days for approval.

2.  Job Offer signature and contract

In the next step, the employee will receive a job offer contract for his signature. After signing, He must return it to the employer for further processing, and it must both be in Arabic and English along with in his native language (if his native language is different). This is used to confirm that the employee is coming to a proper position of work. MOL will then review the employee’s offer letter.

Time to Process: Two working days.

3.  Work Permit: Application Approval

Before the issuing of an Entry Visa, the work permit needs to be approved. During all Processes, MOL bases its decision on whether there are no unemployed UAE citizen available for this job. The sponsor should be a corporate registred entity of UAE only in that case approval is granted.

Time to Process: 3 to 5 days

4.  Entry Visa for Employment

When the work permit is approved, Ministry issues an ‘Employment Entry Visa,’ also known as a pink visa. This approval allows applicants to enter in UAE legally. Permit validity is two months only from the issuance of date. It will enable the holder to stay in the United Arab Emirates for 30 days periods. It can be extended two times during the approval of a formal work permit.

Stage Two: Obtaining the residence visa and work permit in UAE

  1. United Arab Emirates entry with entry visa/ permit or change of status.

They are mostly two options for entering and starting to process the work permit. Before arrival, if the entry visa is not ready, the employee can pick it up at the airport. If the employee is present in the UAE already on any other Visa type, they will have to go for a status visa change after the issuance of entry.

There is another option that they can leave and then re-enter with an ‘entry visa.’

When employees enter the country, they Will have 60 days under which they have to complete every formality required to get their residence visa and work permit.

2.  Medical Screening

Before the work permit is approved, United Arab Emirates required all foreigners to go through medical screening.

3.  Emirates ID Biometrics/Application

The employee then has to go to the ‘Emirates ID service center.’ At any center, the employee needs to get the relevant form typed. For applying for an ID, an original employment entry permit and a valid passport are required, after which the biometrics are done.

Medical Screening Result

The results for medical screening needs to be obtained and attached to the application.

4.  Labour Contract Signature

As part of the work permit application, it must submit a signed labor contract with it. There is a specific deadline for the deal; it needs to be sent to the Ministry of labor within fourteen days following the medical results’ issuance. The contract of labor can also be uploaded to the website of MOL.

5.  Receipt of Labour Work/ Card Permit & Contract with the starting Date

After receiving the work permit, the UAE’s official system can officially state the payroll.

6.  Medical Health Insurance Card Application

Health insurance has become mandatory in the United Arab Emirates, so all employers now have to provide all ex-pat workers’ medical coverage. There is no possibility to renew or issue a work permit without a valid insurance card.

Time to Process: five Days

7.  Residence Visa Stamping in Passport

All expected workers and their family members will require a residence visa to live in UAE. VISA is necessary in many ways, such as to open a bank account or car registration, etc.

Time to Process: three Days

8.  Emirates ID Collection

With the work permit, the employee will also receive an Emirates identity card required for everyday identification.

Time to Process: ten Days after stamping Residence Visa in the passport

Following documents are required for obtaining a residence visa in UAE.

  1. A valid passport photocopy
  2. Passport size photographs
  3. An entry permit from the MOL (Ministry of Labor)
  4. Medical screening results
  5. Company’s card copy from the employers
  6. Company’s commercial license copy.
  7. A copy of a company card from the employer
